OTR is a mental health social movement by and for young people. "OTR is by far the best place I have ever worked; it has enriched my understanding of not only young people's mental health, but systemic and structural inequalities that influence the way we all experience good and bad wellbeing, and what we can do to change this. OTR is a supportive, diverse group of creative and thoughtful professionals, and best of all it provides opportunities to work alongside and empower young people" - Member of the OTR team

About the Role

OTR is currently creating a brand new three-year strategy, setting out an exciting vision to support, promote and defend the mental health, rights and social position of young people. This follows a period of organisational growth, where expanding services into the North Somerset region, and working in partnership with the local statutory mental health provider, has increased our staffing to over 100 employees.

OTR currently has a team of Trustees with a wealth of skills and experience. Trustees meet at quarterly board meetings to provide governance and stewardship and drive the charity forward to achieve its organisational objectives - and ultimately provide the best possible services for young people.

As the Chair of Trustees, you will be passionate and motivated, with charity experience and excellent leadership skills to support the board. You will demonstrate a commitment to empowering young people and developing OTR organisationally, supporting the CEO to implement the new strategy.

OTR also has an ongoing open recruitment for early career trustees and those who have not yet served as a trustee, and will provide training and mentoring from a fellow trustee. In addition, we would love to hear from:

- those with lived experience of mental health and previous users of our service

- people from equalities groups and people of colour

- those with legal and/or HR experience

- those with corporate/business experience

- experienced charity trustees with governance and finance experience

A Willingness to Work with Difference

At OTR, a prerequisite and condition of any position in our organisation is a willingness to work with difference. Whatever your role or professional background, you will be expected to work across different categories of ethnicity, race, social class, disability, faith, gender and sexual diversity. We take this bit seriously, so our promise to you is that we will encourage, support and develop your capability in working trans-culturally and with difference while you are with us.

OTR is fully committed to creating a culture in which diversity, equality of opportunity and equity are promoted actively and in which unlawful discrimination - direct or indirect - is not tolerated.  OTR recognises the benefits to individual practice and organisational credibility of having a diverse community of staff and volunteers and to this end is continually working towards building and maintaining an environment which values and pursues diversity accordingly.

We recognise that tackling systemic inequality, prejudice, racism and oppressive practice requires each of us to actively engage, self-examine and make changes where necessary, in order to improve access and equitable experience for all in society and all of those who come through our doors at OTR.
